Show up when customers ask ChatGPT for a contractor

More homeowners now ask AI assistants for a recommendation instead of scrolling search results. Here's how to make sure your business is one of the names they hear.

"Who's a good roofer near me?" used to be typed into Google. More and more, it's asked out loud to ChatGPT, Gemini or Google's own AI answers. Instead of ten blue links, the customer hears two or three names. Here's how to give yourself the best chance of being one of them.

AI assistants read your website

These assistants build their answers from what they can find and understand on the web. If your website clearly says what you do, where you do it and why customers trust you, it's much easier for an assistant to recommend you by name. If it's vague, slow or mostly pictures with no words, there's little for it to work with.

Say plainly what you do, and where

Write it the way a customer would ask it. Not "comprehensive exterior solutions" but "roof repair and replacement in Bakersfield and nearby towns." Give each main service its own page, and list the towns you serve.

  • One clear page for each service you want more of
  • The towns and areas you work, in plain words
  • Your business name, address and phone the same everywhere online

Answer the questions customers ask

Assistants are often answering a question, not just naming a company. If your site answers the common ones, like what a job typically costs, how long it takes and whether you handle permits, you're giving the assistant exactly what it needs to point to you.

Reviews still count

When an assistant weighs which businesses to mention, a steady stream of recent, genuine reviews helps. The habit that wins on Google, asking every customer after every job, helps here too.

Keep it fast and kept up

A site that's slow, broken or out of date sends the wrong signals to people and to the tools that read it. Keep your hours, services and photos current, and check that the site loads quickly on a phone.

Your next customer issearching right now.

Let's make sure they find you, and that you never miss them.
